Insurance Coverage And Financing Tubal Ligation Reversal
Can You Get Insurance to Cover the Financing of Your Tubal Reversal?
You’ve definitely decided that your are going ahead with your tubal reversal. Now you need to know how you are going to go about financing tubal reversal. The answer is going to come down to, “Ask.”
Health Insurance for Tubal Reversal Financing
First what you will need to look at is if there is insurance coverage for tubal reversal with your insurance company as your first choice for tubal reversal financing. This may not be as easy as it seems at first thought.
You may need to read your policy to look for exclusions. As many companies will consider this elective surgery since you chose to have your tubes tied in the first place, don’t be surprised if this sterilization reversal is excluded.
But you may be lucky enough to have a company that will cover some of the testing or anesthesia or some other part of the operation. You will need to get the codes from your doctor and check with your insurance company. At this time, the insurance code (ICD-9) for bilateral tubal occlusion is 628.2. The procedure code (CPT) for tubotubal anastomosis is 58750. Verify these with your doctor.
Will Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Pay for Tubal Reversal?
One company that has covered some tubal reversals is Blue Cross/Blue Shield. If they will cover your tubal reversal could depend on several things such as whether your procedure will be done in state or out and the legal requirements on insurance companies in your state (some require fertility procedures be covered – whether tubal reversals meet this is open to debate).
Unfortunately, this means we cannot say an unequivocal, “Yes”. It just depends. However, feel free to use this link to ANTHEM BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD to learn if they can help you. See the NOTE further down the page.
Most likely if you find a provider that covers all or part of the surgery, the insurance company will not pay till after the reversal is done and it may require months of follow-up. Be prepared. And if the insurance company will pay for the surgery, the surgeon may require written statement from the insurance company stating so before the procedure is done.
If you do luck out with your insurance coverage for the tubal reversal, you may not luck out with your specialist. Some tubal reversal centers will help you with the insurance paperwork by filing for you. Some will not even accept the insurance. You will have to pay up front and do all the filing after the surgery hoping to collect and pay back what you have spent.
Other Options for Tubal Reversal Financing
If insurance coverage is out of the question, you are left with using a payment plan as all or part of your plan for financing tubal reversal if your surgeon allows such. This way you make payments till you have the total paid to them and then get to schedule the surgery. Also look into whether you or your husband has a flexible spending account plan at work that will allow you to pay with the funds in it.
Some tubal reversal centers and doctors will allow you to pay with a credit card or even several credit cards. Others will have nothing to do with credit cards. While cashier checks, bank to bank transfers, or money orders may be accepted you could find your center does not accept personal checks or even Western Union transfers.
Your last real choice for financial assistance for tubal reversal is getting a loan. You could start with trying for a personal loan from your personal local bank. If that doesn’t work there are institutions that offer financial help for tubal reversal such as MediCredit, MedProva, Capital One Health Care Finance, Reliance Medical Finance, SurgeryLoans and CareCredit.
One last option available is if you are seeking a tubal reversal for religious reasons. There are some charities that may finance the surgery under certain circumstances. One such reviewed required much input from your pastor and a waiting list. While on the waiting list you are required to assist them yourself every month. Check out how to get a free tubal reversal.
By reading the above, you can understand why we said that financing tubal reversal all comes down to “Ask.” You will have to ask your insurance company, your tubal reversal center/doctor, your personal bank, and maybe even some loan institutions to find the financial assistance for a tubal reversal.

Hi Angela,
If you will click on one of the blue links in the article above (not the tags below the article), you should be taken to a place where you can apply for help to cover the cost of a tubal reversal. Let me know by commenting if there is a problem with the link and I will get it straightened out.
Can you tell me the name of the charity that offered help with a tubal reversal? waiting list or not. I really need to know where i can find places like these.
Angela, I will give my notes a look-see in the next few days but I don’t promise anything. It seemed it was a Christian organization and had some very set requirements before even thinking of helping with tubal reversals. It’s been awhile but I will see if I can find it again.

If you do find the names of any charity that is able to help, please also send me the info. This has been a decision I have regretted almost immediatly after having it done. And I’ve had many health issues since… Thank you
Crystal, Ashley, and Amanda,
From what you are saying it sounds like you might have post tubal ligation syndrome. You can read more about that on this site such as post tubal ligation syndrome and some of my other articles around the web.
Your first step, though, is going to be finding a doctor who believes in the syndrome so he can say it is a medical necessity. You should sound out your doctor about this possibility.
I have had to disapprove some comments as they included either an email address, snail mail address or phone numbers. I’m sorry but I am doing this for your safety. Too many trolls around the net who use bots to try to find such info in order to spam you or even try identity theft.
Please do not include such info in the body of your comment.
Autumn,
Check out this post about tubal reversal financing and the follow on post for some ideas of how to come up with the funds. Given where you live, I would highly suggest calling the Chapel Hills Tubal Reversal Center and asking them for the particulars of their payment plan. That might be just what you need.
i live in milwaukee in lookin to get tubal reversal but on a plan and im not sure my insurance cover it?
@Ashley: what insurance do you have that will pay for the surgery
did you find out the charity to help with the reversal and what insurance company that is willing to help pay please let me know i have been looking for years please send me the info
Jamie,
I have changed your comment because you included an email address in it. This is not safe unless you want to get even more spam in your inbox.
However, your question about a charity to help with tubal reversal is answered in this post – free tubal reversal
Hope that helps.
What insurance do you have.@Ashley:
Hi I had my tubes tied 5 years ago and I want to get them untied. I have 3 children and I currantly lost them. Im lost without them and its putting me in a depressed state of mind. I need to fill this empty hole in my sole. Im on ssi income so I dont have alot of money. Someone please help me
Amanda,
I am so sorry for your loss. That is an unthinkable pain.
How long has it been since the loss? I ask because you might need to consider counseling more than a tubal reversal if it has not been too long ago.
Given your resources and low income, you may have to consider the long and slow process of saving towards a tubal ligation reversal. Without knowing more about your situation, it is very hard to help. However, look throughout this website and further on the web and you could find some advice that will help you reach your goal.
I would like to know if bluecross blue shield covers a reversal tubaligation?
Hi everyone I had a tubal reversal last year in november and was so happy! We paid cash for it. We did get pregnant in January but it was an ectopic pregnancy. It was the most heart braking day of our lives. Not only did we lose the little one I also lost one ovary and one tube.
So me new dr did the die test and said he did not recommend us trying naturally said IVF would be the best solution for us.
So my question is dose anyone know if my insurance or any insurance cover that with what my issue is now?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
who do you insure through im looking for insurance company that will help cover this cost?
I pray to God that I hope that I found a insurance that pays 100% of the surgery I found. Someone I. Would to have children with oneday.I’m searching for three days
Mommy2AJ,
I hate to say it but it sounds like you need to talk to an insurance expert in your area. I do believe that some insurance companies will cover fertility treatments but it depends so much on your policy with your company, where you are located (what has been regulated that must be included in your insurance), and so on.
Not knowing anything really about your situation but I do know women can get pregnant with one tube and ovary though the chances are less. Not saying you could since facts of your case are unknown and your doctor has said your best chances are elsewhere. Just relaying a fact.
Have you talked to your tubal reversal doctor about this?
I wish you luck with your quest.
@admin: omg mi too…..
im am so in need of a reversal im trying to get the money up or so one that covers it….i wonder if blue cross dose…
I have anthem bcbs ohio and was forced many many yrs ago by my very abusive ex husband to get my tubes tied knowing that i have endometriosis and that tying my tubes would make my cycles extremely painful which they are now. I never wanted the procedure done now I am remarried to a great guy and we want children of our own. I just want to know if our insurance will cover the reversal.
I wish I could answer this for you but you will have to call your insurance company to find out. Alternatively, check out your benefits booklet. Actually I would do that first as you may still need a clarification after reading it.
I really hope they do cover it for you. If not the full amount, perhaps parts of it such as diagnostics, consultations and lab work.
I am desperate for a tubal reversal i change my mind after signing the form they gave it to me a day sooner before i could talk ro my doctor during an emergency c-section and told me after it was done to top it off the guy i was with died 2months later now im married and so want another baby can anyone please help
Chrysten,
There is a lot of information on this site about tubal reversals. Please review it to see if you can find what you need. But what specifically do you need help with?
Was it actually legal for my doctor to do my tubal a day eary and not consult me till after the fact
Sorry. Not a lawyer in your state. I just don’t know. It doesn’t seem right but it may be legal which are two different things.
Hi Im tryna get a tubal reversal done can u please tell me if u all cover that
well i need to get health insurance to pay for my tubal ligation reversal
No. Chances are you can’t get health insurance to pay for tubal reversal. There are other ways to pay for the surgery.
For some people in certain places, it appears that Blue Cross Blue Shield MAY pay for a tubal reversal.
Some health insurance MAY pay for all or part of a tubal reversal done for purposes of recovering from tubal ligation side effects.
I live in ny and I have ghi/blue cross blue shield , will they cover a tubal reversal? I’m not sure if they were burned but if so, can I still have it done?
Tanya,
I don’t know. I don’t live in NY. You will have to call them and/or look at your insurance policy. Even if they do say they will cover it or part of the tubal reversal procedure over the phone, try very hard to get it in writing unless you do find where it is printed in the policy. And depending upon your surgeon, you may still have to pay up front before the surgery and have the insurance company reimburse you after filing the paperwork.
If your fallopian tubes were “burned” (coagulated) then, yes, you can have tubal reversal surgery. Best thing to do is have your tubal reversal doctor review your tubal ligation records to learn what happened. There have been some doctors who wanted to make very sure that the sterilization took place and “burned” the tubes in several places. It doesn’t mean you can’t have the surgery. It just means your chances of a successful pregnancy after may be lower as they depend, in part, on how much fallopian tube(s) you have left after the tubal reversal.
No, we are not a health insurance company.
This site provides information about various aspects of both tubal reversal and vasectomy reversal.
You are welcome to check out one of the banner ads on our financing page to see if you can find an insurance company that will help you. No promises and not likely. If you do fill it out, be aware that this site will receive a small fee for you doing so. We are affiliates of eHealthInsurance.
