How Much For A Tubal Ligation Reversal? – Tubal Reversal Cost

You’ve done your research into reversing your tubal ligation and have decided to go for it. Now you will need to know the tubal reversal cost.  Just what is the cost of tubal reversal and what goes into making up the price?

Will Health Insurance Cover My Tubal Reversal Cost?

tubal reversal costUp front you should understand that while your insurance may have covered most of the costs of your original surgery to “tie your tubes”, very few will cover any of the costs of reversing your tubal ligation.

However, in order to find out if they will cover the surgery or any of the associated costs, you should get the proper insurance codes and procedure codes from the doctor you have selected (actually from his staff) and ask your insurance company if they will cover any of the costs of the tubal reversal.

If they tell you they will not, be sure to check if, and what, they will cover if there are any complications from proceeding with the microsurgery.  No, complications aren’t expected but this is surgery after all.

If your insurance company will not cover the total cost of the surgery see if they will cover any of the tubal reversal fees.  If you are in luck, this can help reduce the cost you may have to bear.

NOTE: The one thing most visitors to this site seem to be interested in is some way to finance a tubal ligation reversal or a vasectomy reversal. As you can read in this article and elsewhere, one way to do this is by having an insurance provider provide you with appropriate health insurance.

You will find that your eligibility for coverage and the available policy types will vary depending upon the information you provide and possibly even where you live. You will need to have any questions answered directly by the health insurance carrier you choose. Using eHealthInsurance will allow you to request information on various insurance plans and carriers. You can even apply for health insurance plans on the site. Any questions you have should be discussed with the carrier during the approval process.

The variety of insurance carriers and policies available on eHealthInsurance should provide excellent potential to fulfill your search for the proper health insurance carrier. (End Note)

What Is The Tubal Reversal Cost on Average?

Since your insurance most likely won’t cover the cost of the tubal reversal, you will have to handle it out of pocket. Tubal reversal cost can be any where from $5500 on up. The average is either $8,000 to $9,000 or a bit more depending upon where you get your figures. This should tell you there is a wide range of costs.

Lower Cost of Tubal Reversal with Clinic

It appears that costs are lower where you have a doctor(s) that has his own clinic in which this is mostly what he does – the tubal reversal surgery. This stands to reason if they have their own facilities, staff and do several procedures every day.

Such practitioners will not be paying hospital fees and other fees such organizations may require. I found one facility where the price was $5500 and a few others where it was $5900 – $6900 depending on how fast you paid the fee up front.

Most clinics will refund a portion of an advance payment if the surgery is canceled more than two or three weeks ahead of the scheduled date. However, most will not refund any of the fee if cancellation happens in under two weeks. A supposition is it becomes harder to fill that vacant spot the closer it is to the scheduled date.

Be Sure to Know What Is Included in Your Tubal Reversal Cost

When you begin comparing doctors to perform you tubal reversal surgery, know exactly what is included with the fee you pay. Such things could be the pre-operative review of your records, the surgical fee for the doctor, lab work, the surgical supplies, anesthesiologist’s fees, facility fees, nurses’ fees, pre-operative visit fee, pain management costs, and any follow up care. Ask what extras will be needed that are not included in this fee.

When adding up all the pieces of your tubal reversal cost, don’t forget to include your cost of getting to the clinic (airplane tickets or cost of driving), hotel costs while there and cost of food as well. You will probably need to count on a minimum of two nights in a hotel with a more likely scenario being three night stay.

Further Note: I wrote several insurance companies for information of whether they supplied insurance for reversals. eHealthInsurance was the only one who answered my request for information by informing me that you will just have to talk to them and it will be on a case by case basis. Be aware that is you do fill out the information on that page linked above, I will receive a fee.
